Comments

The two bouquets of flowers are placed on a small table in front of the white tiled stove in Cuno and Anna Amiet's flat in the inn on the Oschwand. The painting was probably created shortly before they moved into the house with studio and garden built by the young architect Otto Ingold in the summer of 1909.

The Zurich art collector and patron Richard Kisling (1862-1917) acquired the work directly from Amiet. The two were close friends and Kisling visited the artist several times on the Oschwand, as documented by a photograph from 1913 (Zaugg, ill. p. 93). In 1913 Kisling had a gallery wing built specifically for his extensive art collection in the newly built "Krähbühl" villa on the Zürichberg. Before moving into the stately family residence, the Kunsthaus Zürich exhibited a selection of 535 works from Kisling's collection in the summer of 1913, including the painting on offer here.

Erläuterungen

Die beiden Blumensträusse stehen auf einem kleinen Tisch vor dem weissen Kachelofen in der damaligen Wohnung von Cuno und Anna Amiet im Wirtshaus auf der Oschwand. Das Gemälde entstand vermutlich kurz vor dem Umzug in das vom jungen Architekten Otto Ingold erbaute Haus mit Atelier und Garten im Sommer 1909.

Der Zürcher Kunstsammler und Mäzen Richard Kisling (1862-1917) erwarb das Werk direkt von Amiet. Die beiden verband eine enge Freundschaft und Kisling besuchte den Künstler mehrmals auf der Oschwand, was durch eine Fotografie von 1913 dokumentiert ist (Zaugg, Abb. S. 93). Für seine umfassende Kunstsammlung liess Kisling in der 1913 neu erbauten Villa "Krähbühl" am Zürichberg eigens einen Galerietrakt errichten. Vor dem Umzug in den herrschaftlichen Familiensitz zeigte das Kunsthaus Zürich im Sommer 1913 eine Auswahl von 535 Werken aus Kislings Sammlung, darunter auch das hier angebotene Gemälde.
