Silvia Gertsch usually works in series for her reverse glass paintings. She uses her own photographs or video stills as models, capturing spontaneous, actually unspectacular moments. Video stills of car journeys at night served as a template for the "Movie" series. The painting offered here is a very early example of the series; the portrait format is also special, making the reflections and light cones of the cars on the rain-soaked roadway appear impressive. The Movie paintings are stereotypically reminiscent of road movies and experiences in cinema films

Erläuterungen

Silvia Gertsch arbeitet für ihre Hinterglasmalerei meist in Serien. Als Bildvorlagen verwendet sie eigene Fotografien oder Videostills, die spontane, eigentlich unspektakuläre Momente festhalten. Videostills von Autofahrten bei Nacht dienten als Vorlage der "Movie"-Serie. Das hier angebotene Gemälde ist ein sehr frühes Beispiel der Serie, besonders ist auch das Hochformat, das die Spiegelungen und Lichtkegel der Autos auf der regennassen Fahrbahn eindrucksvoll erscheinen lassen. Die Movie-Bilder erinnern stereotypisch an Roadmovies und Erlebnisse in Kinofilmen
