Born in 1894, Marguerite's daughter Marguerite came from an earlier relationship between Matisse and his model Camille (Caroline) Joblaud. However, she grew up with his wife Amélie, married in 1898, and their half-brothers Jean Gérard and Pierre in the artist's house and was one of her father's favourite models. The bronze of the 21-year-old woman, created in 1915, is considered one of the artist's most beautiful portrait busts. Later, married to the art critic and philosopher Georges Duthuit, she was the first "guardian" of her father's archive. One can feel the artist's great "modernity" in the bronze offered here

Die 1894 geborene Tochter Marguerite stammte aus einer früheren Beziehung von Matisse mit seinem Modell Camille (Caroline) Joblaud. Sie wuchs aber mit der 1898 geheirateten Ehefrau Amélie und ihren Halbbrüdern Jean Gérard und Pierre im Hause des Künstlers auf und war eines der Lieblingsmodelle ihres Vaters. Die 1915 geschaffene Bronze der 21-jährigen Frau gilt als eine der schönsten Porträtbüsten des Künstlers überhaupt. Später verheiratet mit dem Kunstkritiker und Philosophen Georges Duthuit war sie die erste "Hüterin" des Archivs ihres Vaters
