Condition

Very nice print in 3 colours, very dark blue, yellow and red for the border. The upper left corner folded during printing and now stretched again. Print on thin Japan paper, the paper partly wavy and with folds at margins. A little bit brownish, with traces of studio. In a nice overall condition

Commentaires

The drawing stone dates from 1913 and was printed in a small edition. The colour border was probably only added around 1925 and was probably only printed in very few copies in this form

The theme of mother and child recurs in Nolde's oeuvre. Often the depictions also have religious connotations. From autumn 1913 to the end of August 1914, Nolde and his wife Ada took part as draughtsmen in the "Medical-Demographic German New Guinea Expedition" of the Reichskolonialamt. Numerous watercolours were created on the trip; depictions of the "mother-child" theme are also known. A very rare graphic sheet in this state with a red border

Sehr schöner Druck in 3 Farben, sehr dunkles Blau, Gelb und Rot für die Umrandung. Die Ecke oben links beim Druck umgeknickt und jetzt wieder gestreckt. Druck auf dünnem Japan, das Papier zum Teil gewellt und an den Rändern mit Falten. Leicht gebräunt, mit Atelierspuren. In schöner Gesamterhaltung

Erläuterungen

Der Zeichnungsstein stammt von 1913 und wurde in kleiner Auflage gedruckt. Die farbige Umrandung wurde wohl erst um 1925 hinzugefügt und in dieser Form vermutlich nur in ganz wenigen Exemplaren abgezogen

Das Thema Mutter und Kind findet sich immer wieder im Œuvre Noldes. Oft sind die Darstellungen auch religiös konnotiert. Von Herbst 1913 bis Ende August 1914 nahm Nolde mit seiner Frau Ada als Zeichner an der "Medizinisch-demographischen Deutsch-Neuguinea-Expedition" des Reichskolonialamtes teil. Es entstanden auf der Reise zahlreiche Aquarelle; es sind auch Darstellungen der "Mutter-Kind"-Thematik bekannt. Ein in diesem Zustand mit roter Umrandung sehr seltenes graphisches Blatt
