Max Bill is one of the founders and main representatives of Concrete Art. His work was shaped by the Bauhaus idea of the unity of all the arts and a form appropriate to function and material, with the means being autonomous and bearers of the artwork’s meaning, which refers only to itself. As with the present small-format sculpture, in which the beams cross a central core, Bill’s works are produced in a clear and comprehensible manner. The title "Doublement" soberly reflects the construction principle of the sculpture.

Erläuterungen

Max Bill ist einer der Begründer und Hauptvertreter der Konkreten Kunst. Sein Schaffen wurde geprägt von der Bauhaus-Idee der Einheit aller Künste und einer funktions- und materialgerechten Form, wobei die Mittel eigenständig und Träger des nur sich selbst bedeutenden Kunstwerks sind. Wie bei der vorliegenden kleinformatigen Plastik, bei der die Balken einen mittigen Kern kreuzen, sind Bills Arbeiten überschaubar und nachvollziehbar hergestellt. Der Werktitel "Doublement" gibt das Konstruktionsprinzip der Plastik nüchtern wieder.
