    Comments

The creation of an ornamentally entwined new creature from the natural elements of plant and aphid is characteristic of the artist’s understanding of nature.

In this work, Paul Klee combines motifs he had already used earlier, in a way as general symbols for "Tier" and "Pflanze". On the other hand, the lithograph is based on a pen drawing from 1916 (Paul Klee Stiftung 1657) that bears the same title. The lithograph appeared in the book "Deutsche Graphiker der Gegenwart".
