Condition

In museum mounting, laid down along the edges on cardboard and on the cardboard with the inventory number "1916.185" As well as the printed name "EMIL NOLDE". Along the edges slightly browned and with two white spots in the paper. Upper left partially detached from the support. Overall in fresh condition

Comments

On behalf of the German government, Emil Nolde accompanied an expedition in 1914 to the German colonial territories in the South Seas, especially to Palau. Some of the watercolours created during this time were purchased by the Reichskolonialamt in 1916 and passed into the possession of the Berlin National Gallery in 1919. In 1937, they were confiscated as "Entartete Kunst" and partially sold.

In Museumsmontierung den Rändern entlang auf Karton aufgezogen und auf dem Karton mit der Inventarnummer "1916.185" sowie dem gedruckten Namen "EMIL NOLDE". Den Rändern entlang leicht gebräunt und mit zwei weissen Flecken im Papier. Oben links teilweise von der Unterlage gelöst. Insgesamt in farbfrischer Erhaltung

Erläuterungen

Im Auftrag der deutschen Regierung begleitete Emil Nolde 1914 eine Expedition in die deutschen Kolonialgebiete in der Südsee, vor allem nach Palau. Die dabei entstandenen Aquarelle wurden 1916 zum Teil vom Reichskolonialamt angekauft und gingen 1919 in den Besitz der Berliner Nationalgalerie über. 1937 wurden sie als "Entartete Kunst" beschlagnahmt und teilweise verkauft.
