    Comments

Like the Old Masters and the artists of New Objectivity, Adolf Dietrich worked freely in his studio with the models and aids available to him, such as drawings and sketches. The arrangement of the flowers in the vase recalls an earlier painting from 1932 titled "Sonnenblumen mit Hummel" (Ammann/Vögele 32.35).

Many of the painter's works, especially the floral still lifes, he constructed by means of a kind of collage of foreground and background. It is precisely these pictures that possess a special appeal. Due to minor inconsistencies and perspective inaccuracies, they appear constructed and at the same time highly true to life.
