Sheet slightly browned. Traces of old mounting on the reverse, partially showing through to the front. In very good condition
The etching "Dangaster Mühle" is not yet listed in the catalogue raisonné of Rosa Schapire and Ernest Rathenau on the graphic works of Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, but only in Hermann Gerlinger.
The depicted windmill stands in the North Sea resort of Dangast, a fishing village on the so-called Jade Bay, a sea inlet north of Oldenburg. From the same vantage point, Erich Heckel painted the painting "Die Windmühle in Dangast" in the summer of 1909, which is now in the Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg. Like Schmidt-Rottluff, Heckel spent the summer months between 1907 and 1911 in this part of East Frisia (Ostfriesland).
We thank Christiane Remm, Brücke-Museum Berlin, for the valuable information on the sheet.

In sehr guter Erhaltung
