    Comments

    Gustav Schiefler (1857-1935) was the director of the district court in Hamburg and a great supporter of Munch, as well as other artists such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Liebermann and Emil Nolde. He also compiled Munch’s first catalogue raisonné. See also lot 926.

    According to Schiefler, three to four prints were produced by Wilhelm Felsing from the plate before steel-facing.

    Erläuterungen

    Gustav Schiefler (1857-1935) war Landgerichtsdirektor in Hamburg und ein grosser Förderer von Munch (und anderen Kunstschaffenden wie Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Liebermann oder Emil Nolde). Er verfasste auch Munchs erstes Werkverzeichnis. Vgl. auch Los 926.

    Laut Schiefler entstanden 3 bis 4 Drucke durch Wilhelm Felsing von der unverstählten Platte.
