In 'Vor dem Haus. Mondschein' Munch shows a female figure standing alone at night in front of a house (see lots 816 and 869). The moonlight permeates the scene with quiet melancholy. The woman appears lost between darkness and light, nearness and distance. The work is a symbol of loneliness and inner restlessness - a nocturnal moment between memory and expectation.
Probably printed by the artist himself in a few copies.

Wohl vom Künstler in wenigen Exemplaren selbst gedruckt.
