    Comments

In 'Eifersucht II', Edvard Munch condenses the feeling of tormenting passion into an expressive visual language. A man looks directly and expressionlessly at the viewer. In the background, by contrast, a couple stand in close intimacy, symbolising lost love. Munch uses strong contrasts of light and dark, as well as distorted forms, to reveal emotional depth and existential turmoil. This was a theme that accompanied him throughout his life (see also lot 990).

A very fine impression, printed by Lassally in Berlin.
