    Comments

In 'Anziehung II' a man and a woman encounter each other. As demonstrated by lot 812, Munch was interested in this theme for a significant period of time. The two figures stand facing each other, creating a charged atmosphere where proximity and distance are simultaneously felt. Their bodies are defined by strong, trembling lines that convey emotional excitement and magnetic attraction. The two figures cast long shadows into the background. The composition addresses the interplay of desire, power and inner unrest. It is an early example of Munch's theme of love in printmaking. This sheet is a fine, later impression, probably printed by the artist or by Scheel.
