    Comments

Depending on the incidence of light and viewing angle, the visual effect of "The Trickster" changes. The figure of the Trickster represents an ambivalent force in many Indigenous cultures of North America. He is a boundary-crosser between order and chaos, a transgressor of rules who, through cunning and transformation, questions social norms.

Ed Pien does not let this figure emerge directly, but rather weaves it into the impenetrable tangle of forms and shadows. This creates a tension between visibility and concealment, between structure and dissolution. The reflective foil behind the paper gives the work an additional depth. Depending on the lighting situation, certain areas light up while others recede. Ed Pien recommends hanging the work in front of a window so that the outside light makes the surface shimmer.

We thank the artist for his kind information.
