In a letter dated 19 January 1896, Jane Avril asked the artist to design a poster at his discretion to advertise the performances of the dance troupe "Mlle Églantine" with Églantine Demay, Jane Avril, Cléopâtre and Gazelle at the "Palace Theatre" in London. The dance of the troupe, developed from the "Cancan", was also performed in Paris at the "Elysée Montmartre", the "Jardin de Paris", "Frascati" and the "Moulin Rouge" in the usual quartet formation.
