Along the sheet edges with traces of old mounting and with punctures at the centre left and right sheet edges. In fresh colours, with very fine print quality and condition.

Depicted is the actress Marcelle Lender (born Anne-Marie Marcelle Bastien, 1862–1926). She was a stage celebrity and played, among other roles, Queen Galswinthe in the opéra-bouffe "Chilpéric" by Hervé (actually Louis Auguste Florimond Ronger Hervé, 1825–1892). First performed in 1868, the piece enjoyed a highly successful revival in 1895 at the Théâtre des Variétés in Paris; it was there that Toulouse-Lautrec is said to have seen it. The sheet appeared in the German edition of the journal PAN, vol. I, issue 3, in an edition of 1,211 copies (with script).

Erläuterungen

Dargestellt ist die Schauspielerin Marcelle Lender (bürgerlich Anne-Marie Marcelle Bastien, 1862-1926). Sie war eine Bühnenberühmtheit und spielte unter anderem die Rolle der Königin Galswinthe in der Opéra-bouffe "Chilpéric" von Hervé (eigentlich Louis Auguste Florimond Ronger Hervé, 1825-1892). Das 1868 uraufgeführte Stück erlebte 1895 eine äusserst erfolgreiche Wiederaufnahme im Théâtre des Variétés in Paris; dort wird es Toulouse-Lautrec gesehen haben. Das Blatt erschien in der deutschen Ausgabe der Zeitschrift PAN, Bd. I, Heft 3, in einer Auflage von 1211 Exemplaren (mit Schrift).
