    Comments

The title "Fox" refers to the name of a bar near the Paris Saint-Lazare train station, where the two artist friends Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso each met with other artists and intellectuals. Among their circle of friends in the early 1910s was, among others, the well-known poet Guillaume Apollinaire. Our sheet is one of the most important and largest graphic works of French Cubism. "Fox" together with the smaller work "Job" forms the only two graphic works by Georges Braque that Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler published in an edition of 100 copies each, printed by Eugène Delâtre. The execution and printing dates are known from Kahnweiler's archive.
