Verso with another sketch and with traces of old mounting. Impeccable condition
The drawing on offer belongs to the period in Fernand Léger's work when he explored the formal clarity and constructive rigour of Cubism, translating it into his own distinctive visual language.
The structure of the image is strictly composed. The objects - a vase, bottle, book, and fruit on a table - appear as fundamentally reduced volumes, embedded in an architecturally conceived structure of lines, surfaces and forms that likely represents a room. Typical of Léger is the dynamic contrast between rounded organic forms and linear geometric elements, which lends the image a sense of calm.
The composition is likely a study for a series of still lifes from 1923 and 1924 (cf. WVZ. 375, 376).

WVZ. 375, 376).
