    Comments

The artist mastered every stage of the bronze casting process, from creating the plaster model to achieving the distinctive, irregular patina that would become his trademark and closely guarded secret. Each piece thus had its own unique tonality. When Diego later received the major commissions that fully established his fame, it became increasingly difficult for private collectors to acquire pieces directly from his studio. Diego used the model of the table offered here for the design of the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence and the bar in the "Kronenhalle" in Zurich. Kornfeld acquired the table early on and used it with a glass top in his private home.
