    Comments

Diego Giacometti supported his brother Alberto in producing design objects, which were created on behalf of Jean-Michel Frank (1895-1941) and later for private collectors. Alberto's distinctive lamps were particularly well known (see lots 4, 8, 10-12 of this auction, as well as further lots in the catalogue 'Selected Works of Art'). When Diego later designed furniture himself, it was only natural that he turned to designing lamps, too. In contrast to Alberto's rather austere designs, Diego's lamps were more playful and sensual. This also applies to the table lamp offered here, which is reminiscent of a candlestick. Kornfeld acquired the lamp, intended for his private apartment, directly in Paris.
