    Comments

Giacometti visited the café-tabac 'Le Gaulois', located at the intersection of Rue d'Alésia and Rue Didot, almost daily and often even several times a day. The café was not far from his studio at 46 Rue Hippolyte Maindron in Montparnasse. The present drawing with a view into Rue Didot was created there. With similar street perspectives, the artist illustrated his work 'Paris sans fin', for which he wrote some texts and created all of the illustrations. In this way, Giacometti created a fascinating picture book about Paris, based on the impressions he gathered during countless strolls through the city between 1958 and 1965.
