    Comments

The fruitful collaboration with the Parisian interior designer Jean-Michel Frank produced over fifty different objects in the 1930s. The lamps, wall lights, vases and fireplace surrounds designed in this period feature a reduced, simple, almost classicist formal language that fitted perfectly into Frank's interiors. Bronze bowls, such as the one offered here, were also often intended as gifts for friends. For example, the well-known publisher Tériade (born Efstratios Eleftheriades, 1897-1983) owned two bowls, and in 1955 Giacometti gave a bowl to Roberto Matta (1911-2002) as a wedding gift for his marriage to Malitte Pope.
