Fine impression from the 1st edition. Clean condition with wide margins. On the left still the stitching holes from the original binding

Comments

Goya takes a negative view on the work of medical doctors. The doctor is depicted as a donkey who does not actually help the sick. Ironically, the Prado commentary reads: "The doctor is excellent, thoughtful, deliberate, prudential, serious. What more could you ask for?"

Erläuterungen

Goya zieht eine negative Bilanz der Tätigkeit von Medizinern. Der Arzt wird als Esel dargestellt, der dem Kranken keine tatsächliche Hilfe bringt. Ironisch heisst es im Prado-Kommentar: "Der Arzt ist ausgezeichnet, nachdenklich, überlegt, bedächtig, ernst. Was kann man da mehr verlangen?"
