Beautiful, deep black print on applied China paper. With a small supported tear in the left paper margin and minor paper losses at the edges, the lower one trimmed. Remains of an old mounting on the verso. Overall in good condition
The first and second states mentioned by Mellerio are difficult to distinguish. We assume that this could be the first edition, as it bears the printed inscription "Pégase captif - 100 exemp." at the top right, as described by the author, and the artist's printed signature at the left. Redon created this print in 1889; it first went on sale in 1891, in Paris at Durand-Ruel and Dumont and in Brussels at Deman. Only part of the originally planned edition of 100 copies was printed due to a lack of sales; Mellerio speaks of a maximum of 25 copies. One of the main sheets in Redon's complete graphic oeuvre.

Schöner, tiefschwarzer Druck auf appliziertem Chinapapier. Mit einem kleinem hinterlegten Einriss im linken Papierrand und kleineren Papierverlusten an den Kanten, die untere geschnitten. Rückseitig mit Resten einer alten Montierung. Insgesamt in gutem Erhaltungszustand
Der von Mellerio erwähnte erste und zweite Zustand lassen sich schwer unterscheiden. Wir vermuten, dass es sich um die erste Ausgabe handeln könnte, sie trägt, wie vom Autor beschrieben, oben rechts den gedruckten Vermerk "Pégase captif - 100 exemp.", links die gedruckte Signatur des Künstlers. Redon schuf dieses Blatt 1889, in den Verkauf kam es erstmals 1891, in Paris bei Durand-Ruel und Dumont und in Brüssel bei Deman. Von der ursprünglich geplanten Auflage von 100 Exemplaren wurde wegen des mangelnden Absatzes nur ein Teil gedruckt, Mellerio spricht von höchstens 25 Exemplaren. Eines der Hauptblätter in Redons graphischen Gesamtwerk.
