The print shows the first and second of a total of five states. They are studies for the illustrations to Gilbert Lely's "La Folie Tristan", Paris 1961. Gilbert Lely is the pseudonym of the poet Pierre Raphaël Gilbert Lévy (1904-1985), a representative of surrealist eroticism.
