Comments

Reed/Shapiro call the print an "experimental print" because Degas probably combined different media to suggest a second person in shadowy form next to the lady. The print is therefore also called "Les amoureux". It is a mysterious work that remained in the artist's estate and was sold at the studio auction in 1918. Only two copies are known to exist.

Erläuterungen

Reed/Shapiro nennen den Druck einen "experimental print", weil Degas wohl verschiedene Medien kombinierte, um neben der Dame schemenhaft eine zweite Person anzudeuten. Das Blatt wird daher auch "Les amoureux" genannt. Es ist eine geheimnisvolle Arbeit, die im Nachlass des Künstlers verblieb und 1918 in der Atelier-Auktion verkauft wurde. Es sind lediglich zwei Exemplare bekannt.
