    Comments

"If you look at Markus Raetz's wide-ranging oeuvre, landscape and nature are among the most important points of reference in the development of his visual concept. The preoccupation with landscape and nature runs like a red thread through all phases and also through all media of his art," writes Stephan Kunz in 2013 in his text "Bossibuland. Landscape in the Work of Markus Raetz". In 1976, on the one hand, he created a series of coastal landscapes, sea and cloud paintings from Ramatuelle, which he executed in diluted ink and watercolour, and on the other, a large group of brush drawings entitled "Im Bereich des Möglichen" (In the realm of the possible), in which the artist recorded his impressions after a journey through the rainy Swiss Mittelland.

The present object can be seen in connection with this series. Raetz does not present us with a concrete landscape image, but merely with the memory of the landscape and the mood it evoked. Both the title "In the realm of the possible" and "approximately" suggest vagueness
