Comments

The work of Aloys Zötl was only rediscovered in the middle of the 20th century. Zötl lived as a master dyer in Eferding, Upper Austria. His real passion, however, was a gigantic bestiary, which he created between 1831 and 1887. The painted fantastic animal world consisted of four bound albums with a total of four hundred sheets

Erläuterungen

Das Werk von Aloys Zötl wurde erst Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts wiederentdeckt. Zötl lebte als Färbermeister im oberösterreichischen Eferding. Seine eigentliche Leidenschaft galt jedoch einem gigantischen Bestiarium, das er zwischen 1831 und 1887 schuf. Die gemalte phantastische Tierwelt bestand aus vier gebundenen Alben mit insgesamt vierhundert Blättern
