Blumen nehmen im Œuvre von Chagall eine Hauptrolle ein. Der Strauss steht als ephemere Inspirationsquelle, die die Grenze vom Aussen- zum Innenraum fliessend macht und sogar aufhebt. Der Künstler benutzt das Bouquet aber auch, um seiner künstlerischen Identität als Zeichner und Bildhauer Ausdruck zu verleihen.
