Pigment and dammar on wood
47x40 cm
Titled, dated, inscribed and signed by the artist in pencil on the reverse "untitled, 1990-91 / pigment and dammar / on wood / 47x40 cm / G Umberg".
Condition appropriate to the age and fragility of the work
Günter Umberg's almost exclusively monochrome works are characterised by the haunting presence of colour. To achieve this result, he first applies the binder (dammar natural resin) to the picture support and only then works the pigments (e.g. vine black, ivory black and graphite) into the moist surface. The artist repeats this process until the paint application acquires a special, almost three-dimensional structure and the colour appears exceptionally strong

Pigment und Dammar auf Holz
47x40 cm
