Fresh in colours and in immaculate overall condition
From the 1970s onwards, as a new form of expression, Chagall "invented" compositions constructed by means of clearly delineated areas of colour. In this way he managed to bring together thematic narrative strands as well as create a more dynamic and accentuated pictorial arrangement. Below right, the painter at the easel, who seems to be "conducting" the whole story up to the floating pair of lovers

Als neue Ausdrucksform "erfindet" Chagall für sich ab den 1970er Jahren Kompositionen, die mittels klar abgegrenzter Farbflächen aufgebaut werden. Er kann so thematische Erzählstränge bündeln, schafft aber auch eine Dynamisierung und Akzentuierung der Bildanlage. Unten rechts der Maler an der Staffelei, der die ganze Geschichte bis zu schwebenden Liebenspaar zu "dirigieren" scheint
