On wove paper (papier vélin) "VAN GELDER ZONEN", with parts of the watermark and the original margins, the sheet minimally foxed, the print with traces of oxidation
Ambroise Vollard planned an edition of 27 or 29 copies on Japan and 250 on wove paper for this subject. However, the majority of the sheets printed by Louis Fort were destroyed due to printing defects, in particular oxidation cracks, and consequently did not enter the market. The present sheet is a proof outside the edition, with the obvious defects and the signature and date not visible in the plate. "Les Saltimbanques" are among the earliest graphic works by the artist

Auf Velin "VAN GELDER ZONEN", mit Teilen des Wasserzeichens und den ursprünglichen Randverhältnissen, das Blatt minim stockfleckig, der Druck mit Oxidationsspuren
Ambroise Vollard plante für dieses Sujet eine Auflage von 27 oder 29 Exemplaren auf Japan und 250 auf Velin. Der Grossteil der Blätter, die von Louis Fort gedruckt wurden, wurde jedoch aufgrund von Druckmängeln, insbesondere Oxidationsrinnen, zerstört und kam demzufolge nicht in den Handel. Beim vorliegenden Blatt handelt es sich um einen Probedruck ausserhalb der Auflage, mit den ersichtlichen Mängeln und der nicht sichtbaren Signatur und Datierung in der Platte. "Les Saltimbanques" gehören zu den frühesten graphischen Arbeiten des Künstlers
