    Comments

Johannes Itten founded his own art school in Berlin in 1926, but he had to close it in 1934 under pressure from the National Socialists. From 1932 to 1938 he was also head of the newly founded "Higher Technical School for Textile Surface Art" in Krefeld, which served to provide artistic training for all those working in the textile industry. It was during this time in Krefeld that he created this beautiful portrait of a girl in various shades of red. In 1938 he was dismissed by the National Socialists because he refused to accept German citizenship and the school was closed
