The Catalan milliner and entrepreneur Joan Prats i Vallès (1891-1970) was a great art collector and close friend of Max Ernst, Paul Klee, Joan Brossa or Joan Miró. He even lived with the latter in Paris for a time after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. Later, he worked as an advisor for Catalan art and was the author of numerous writings. Shortly before his death, he was one of the most important initiators of the Joan Miró Foundation and laid the foundation for today's collection with an extensive donation. Miró dedicated this important series of 15 large lithographs to him in his "Homage"

Erläuterungen

Der katalanische Hutmacher und Unternehmer Joan Prats i Vallès (1891-1970) war ein grosser Kunstsammler und enger Freund von Max Ernst, Paul Klee, Joan Brossa oder Joan Miró. Mit letzterem lebte er nach Ausbruch des Spanischen Bürgerkrieges sogar zeitweise in Paris zusammen. Später setzte er sich als Berater für die katalanische Kunst ein und war als Autor zahlreicher Schriften tätig. Kurz vor seinem Tod war er einer der wichtigsten Initiatoren der Joan-Miró-Stiftung und legte mit einer umfangreichen Schenkung den Grundstock zur heutigen Sammlung. Miró widmete ihm mit seiner "Hommage" diese wichtige Folge mit 15 grossen Lithographien
