Yves Klein has always been an exceptional artist. He is best known for the "International Klein Blue (I.K.B.)", which he patented in 1960 and which he often used in his works. In 1946, at the age of 18, he already anticipated the conceptual art of the 1960s and 1970s by signing the blue sky above his native beach in Nice and declaring it his first painting. He returned to the Mediterranean with pleasure and again and again. It was in Cagnes-sur-Mer, at the mouth of the river Loup, that he realised the first "Cosmogonies" in 1960, according to the present work. Cagnes seems to have been a favourite place for the artist's artistic inspiration

Yves Klein understood the term "Cosmogonie" to mean pictures created with the influence of wind and rain, some of them with plant and body imprints. A well-known photograph of Rotraut Klein, the wife, from the studio records the production process of the exciting work of art on offer. The sheet is fixed to a base with clamps and the individual reeds are placed on top. By colouring the leaf blue, a composition with a light negative print of the plants is created. Yves Klein war schon immer ein Ausnahmekünstler. Bekannt ist vor allem das von ihm 1960 patentierte "International Klein Blue (I.K.B.)", welches er oftmals bei seinen Arbeiten einsetzte. Bereits mit 18 Jahren nahm er 1946 die Konzeptkunst der 1960er und 1970er Jahre vorweg, in dem er den blauen Himmel über dem heimatlichen Strand von Nizza signierte und zu seinem ersten Gemälde erklärte. Ans Mittelmeer kehrte er gerne und immer wieder zurück. In Cagnes-sur-Mer, an der Mündung des Flusses Loup, realisierte er so auch die ersten "Cosmogonies" im Jahr 1960, so die vorliegende Arbeit. Cagnes scheint für den Künstler ein bevorzugter Ort für seine künstlerische Inspiration gewesen zu sein

Unter dem Begriff "Cosmogonie" verstand Yves Klein Bilder, die mit Einwirkung von Wind und Regen, zum Teil mit Pflanzen- und Körperabdrücken, entstanden sind. Ein bekanntes Foto von Rotraut Klein, der Ehefrau, aus dem Atelier hält den Herstellungsprozess des angebotenen spannenden Kunstwerkes fest. Das Blatt wird mit Klemmen auf eine Unterlage fixiert und darauf die einzelnen Schilfrohre gelegt. Mittels blauer Einfärbung des Blattes gelangt man zu einer Komposition mit hellem Negativabdruck der Pflanzen. Eine wahrhaft sinnliche Wiedergabe der Natur
