Condition

Very nice print on handmade, cream-coloured Kumohadamashi Japan paper by Heizaburo Iwano. Fresh in colour and in impeccable condition

Comments

In addition to his monumental portraits, he also produced impressive landscapes as woodcuts (Rüschegg, Schwarzwasser). After "Rüschegg I", Cima del Mar is the second large-format woodcut of a landscape. It shows the coastal situation of Cima del Mar on Ibiza with the characteristic rocks/stones in the sea. The artist spends his holidays there at a friend's house and collects motifs for works. Each print of Gertsch's monumental woodcuts is printed in a different colour. A total of 43 prints of the present work are produced in different colour variations, created by the artist and his printer Nik Hausmann. According to the artist's print book, the following colours are printed: dark cobalt blue, azurite, vivianite, charred pearwood and ultramarine blue (Rembrandt). The woodblock is made of pear wood, the present print is in an exciting and unusual shade of green

Sehr schöner Abzug auf handgeschöpftem, cremefarbenem Kumohadamashi Japanpapier von Heizaburo Iwano. Farbfrisch und in tadellosem Zustand

Erläuterungen

Neben seinen monumentalen Portraits entstehen auch eindrückliche Landschaften als Holzschnitte (Rüschegg, Schwarzwasser). Nach "Rüschegg I" ist Cima del Mar der zweite grossformatige Holzschnitt einer Landschaft. Er zeigt die Küstensituation von Cima del Mar auf Ibiza mit den charakteristischen Felsen/Steinen im Meer. Der Künstler verbringt dort seine Ferien im Hause eines Freundes und sammelt Motive für Arbeiten. Jeder Abzug von Gertschs monumentalen Holzschnitten wird in einer anderen Farbe gedruckt. Insgesamt entstehen von der vorliegenden Arbeit 43 Drucke in unterschiedlichen Farbvarianten, vom Künstler und seinem Drucker Nik Hausmann geschaffen. Gedruckt werden gemäss Druckbuch des Künstlers folgende Farben: Kobaltblau dunkel, Azurit, Vivianit, Birnbaum verkohlt und Ultramarinblau (Rembrandt). Der Druckstock besteht aus Birnbaumholz, der vorliegende Abzug ist in einem spannenden und ungewöhnlichen Grünton gehalten
