Comments

Kubin had a lifelong relationship with Marianne Grafe. For many years after their meeting in 1915, he donated drawings and watercolours for anthologies he called "Marianneum". It was not until 1936 that the relationship finally dissolved. Kubin created the present work "Loslösung" (Detachment) in December 1936 and donated the black watercolour as his last contribution to the "Marianneum".

Kubin hatte eine lebenslange Beziehung zu Marianne Grafe. Seit ihrer Begegnung 1915 spendete er in Folge über viele Jahre Zeichnungen und Aquarelle für Sammelbände, die er "Marianneum" nannte. Erst 1936 löste sich die Beziehung endgültig. Kubin schuf im Dezember 1936 das vorliegende Werk "Loslösung" und stellte das Schwarzaquarell als letzten Beitrag dem "Marianneum" zur Verfügung
