    Comments

    The violinist is a motif already used in the artist’s early works and also represents the symbolic figure of the Wandering Jew. Here he plays as he floats over the village square of Vitebsk. Memories of Chagall’s hometown, the lovers, the lush spring flowers and the mysterious swirling lines of the background transform the scene into a waking dream from another time

    Der Geiger ist ein Motiv, das bereits in den ersten Werken des Künstlers angelegt ist, und nicht zuletzt auch für die symbolträchtige Figur des "wandernden Juden" steht. Hier spielt er über dem Dorfplatz von Witebsk auf. Es sind Erinnerungen an Chagalls Heimatstadt, das Liebespaar, die üppigen Frühlingsblumen und der virtuos gestaltete Hintergrund lassen die Darstellung zu einem wachen Traum in einer anderen Zeit werden
