Colour fresh and in perfect condition, at the right margin with a small tear, at the back side with remains of an old mounting at the four corners

Comments

In 1930, Kandinsky created a series of smaller watercolours, which, however, cannot be traced in his inventory nor in his hand list. According to Endicott Barnett, the artist gave some of these works as New Year's wishes to the members of the Kandinsky Society, others found their way into the first 8 copies of the special edition of the publication "Will Grohmann, Kandinsky", published in 1930 by Editions Cahiers d'Art in Paris. The author of the catalogue raisonné suspects that the present work may have originally come from this book

Farbfrisch und in tadelloser Erhaltung, am rechten Rand mit einem kleinen Einriss, verso mit Resten einer alten Montage in den vier Ecken

Erläuterungen

1930 schuf Kandinsky eine Reihe kleinerer Aquarelle, die sich jedoch nicht in seinem Inventar noch in seiner Handliste nachweisen lassen. Nach Endicott Barnett verschenkte der Künstler einige dieser Arbeiten als Neujahrswünsche an die Mitglieder der Kandinsky Gesellschaft, andere fanden Eingang in die ersten 8 Exemplare der Vorzugsausgabe der Publikation "Will Grohmann, Kandinsky", erschienen 1930 bei den Editions Cahiers d'Art in Paris. Die Autorin des Werkverzeichnisses vermutet, dass die vorliegende Arbeit ursprünglich aus diesem Buch stammen könnte
