Comments

In 1907 Friesz travelled to the Mediterranean with Braque for the first time. They stayed first in L'Estaque and then in La Ciotat. Over the next few years, he would repeatedly try to capture the special light of the picturesque coast in his paintings. By 1910 he had already found his mature style and just two years later his loyal gallerist Paul Druet prepared a major retrospective of his works for him.

Erläuterungen

1907 reist Friesz mit Braque erstmals ans Mittelmeer. Sie halten sich zunächst in L'Estaque und anschliessend in La Ciotat auf. In den nächsten Jahren wird er immer wieder von Neuem das besondere Licht der malerischen Küste auf seinen Gemälden einzufangen versuchen. 1910 hat er bereits seinen reifen Stil gefunden und schon zwei Jahre später bereitet ihm sein treuer Galerist Paul Druet eine grosse Retrospektive seiner Werke
