Die 2016 verstorbene Shirley Jaffe zog bereits 1949 nach Paris und schloss sich bald der Gruppe der "Exilamerikaner" um Sam Francis, Ellsworth Kelly, Joan Mitchell und Jean-Paul Riopelle an. Zählte ihr Frühwerk - wie das vorliegende Gemälde - noch zum lyrischen Expressionismus, so wandte sich die Künstlerin in den sechziger Jahren der Abstraktion zu
