Im eindrücklichen, in transparenten Farben gehaltenen Bild "Les mariés dans le ciel de Paris" verwebt Marc Chagall die verschiedenen Stationen seines Lebens. Witebsk unten rechts, Paris in der Mitte, das Licht der Côte d'Azur oben rechts. Auch die angesprochenen Szenen, etwa das Hochzeitspaar, die Stadt, der Zirkus, der Coq, die Ecuyère, religiöse Motive, die Blumen und der Maler selbst, der am unteren, linken Bildrand sein Werk präsentiert, werden zu einer neuen Wirklichkeit vermählt

In this impressive work called "Les mariés dans le ciel de Paris", applying transparent layers of paint, Marc Chagall intertwined different stages of his life: Vitebsk at the bottom right, Paris in the center, the light of the Côte d'Azur at the top right of the painting. Also the scenes referred to, such as the bridal couple, the city, the circus, the rooster, the woman rider, religious motifs, the flowers and the painter presenting his own work in the left-hand corner, are connected to create a new reality
