Adriaen van Ostade's only landscape print is also one of his most popular etchings, which also proves the illustrious provenance of this early print in the late 19th century and throughout the 20th century.

The landscape is so enchantingly executed that Ger Luijten wrote: "It is one of Van Ostade's finest prints, which makes it all more regrettable that he was not more attracted to landscape" (Mirror of Everyday Life. Genreprints in the Netherlands 1550-1700). At the centre of the landscape scene are an angler and a boy on a bridge, which is built high enough to allow small barges to pass. It has been suggested in the literature that this is a bridge at Heemstede near Haarlem, which enjoyed a certain prominence due to its pictorial reproductions and was replaced by an exact replica in the 18th century (S. William Pelletier). The position on such a high bridge allowed fishing in deep water without a boat.

Adriaen van Ostades einzige graphische Landschaftsdarstellung ist zugleich eine seiner beliebtesten Radierungen, was auch die illustre Provenienz dieses Frühdrucks im späten 19. und durch das 20. Jahrhundert hindurch belegt.

Die Landschaft ist derart zauberhaft ausgeführt, dass Ger Luijten schrieb: "It is one of Van Ostade’s finest prints, which makes it all more regrettable that he was not more attracted to landscape" (Mirror of Everyday Life. Im Mittelpunkt der Landschaftsszene stehen der Angler und der Junge auf der Brücke, die hoch gebaut ist, um kleinen Lastkähnen die Durchfahrt zu ermöglichen. In der Literatur wurde vorgeschlagen, dass es sich um eine Brücke bei Heemstede bei Haarlem handelt, die wegen ihrer bildlichen Wiedergaben eine gewisse Prominenz besass und im 18. Jahrhundert durch einen exakten Nachbau ersetzt wurde (S. William Pelletier). Die Position auf einer solch hohen Brücke erlaubte das Fischen in tiefem Wasser ohne Boot.
