Commentaires

The woodcut was published by André Marty in the "Journal des artistes", issue no. 8, October-December 1894. In addition to the work by Vallotton, the issue contained prints by other artists, all mounted on ochre-coloured Bristol, as the present work shows. Alongside "La paresse" (Vallotton/Georg 169), this is one of the artist's best-known and most sought-after woodcuts.

Erläuterungen

Der Holzschnitt wurde von André Marty im "Journal des artistes", Ausgabe Nr. 8, Oktober-Dezember 1894 herausgegeben. Neben dem Werk von Vallotton enthielt die Ausgabe Graphiken von weiteren Künstlern, alle montiert auf ockerfarbenem Bristol, wie die vorliegende Arbeit zeigt. Es handelt sich neben "La paresse" (Vallotton/Georg 169) um einen der bekanntesten und gesuchtesten Holzschnitte des Künstlers.
