Commentaires

An exciting sheet showing the beginnings of automobility in Paris. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's cousin Gabriel Tapié de Céleyran is depicted in a racing pose. He was a doctor in Paris and a loyal companion to his cousin on his legendary excursions into Parisian nightlife. He was also one of the first regular drivers in the city. The car could be the "Renault Type A" developed in 1898, with the characteristic horizontally mounted steering wheel. The artist produced 25 prints of the sheet to give away as gifts.

Erläuterungen

Ein spannendes Blatt, das die Anfänge der Automobilität in Paris zeigt. Dargestellt ist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrecs Cousin Gabriel Tapié de Céleyran in Rennfahrerpose. Dieser war Arzt in Paris und treuer Begleiter seines Cousins bei dessen legendären Ausflügen ins Pariser Nachtleben. Zudem war er einer der ersten regelmässigen Autofahrer in der Stadt. Bei dem Automobil könnte es sich um den im Jahr 1898 entwickelten "Renault Type A" handeln, mit dem charakteristisch horizontal montierten Steuerrad. Der Künstler produzierte 25 Abzüge des Blattes, um diese zu verschenken.
