Commentaires

In the summer of 1959, Picasso returned to the theme of bullfighting with renewed vigour. Bullfighting fascinated him throughout his life - his first painting on the subject dates back to 1889/90. In 1959, he also published the "Tauromaquia" and created various ceramics. It was therefore only natural that he should also work with it in linocuts. This is a beautiful, almost monochrome depiction of a bullfight with horse, rider and bull.

Erläuterungen

Im Sommer 1959 nahm Picasso das Thema des Stierkampfes wieder intensiver auf. Der Stierkampf hat ihn zeitlebens fasziniert - sein erstes Gemälde dazu lässt sich auf 1889/90 datieren. 1959 publizierte er auch die "Tauromaquia" und schuf verschiedene Keramiken. Es war daher naheliegend, dass er sich auch im Linolschnitt damit beschäftigte. Vorliegend eine schöne, annähernd monochrome Stierkampfdarstellung mit Ross, Reiter und Stier.
