Commentaires

For ten years, from 1943 to 1953, the artist Françoise Gilot (1921-2023) was Pablo Picasso's muse and partner. The two children Claude (1947-2023) and Paloma (* 1949) were born from this relationship. Gilot was the model for many paintings and prints. In the present sheet, printed by Roger Lacourière, Picasso impresses with a painterly aquatint of his partner. The artwork was printed on 24 June 1947, a few weeks after the birth of their son Claude (15 May 1947). The print can therefore be understood as a very personal and poetic homage to his lover and the mother of their child.

Erläuterungen

Zehn Jahre lang, von 1943 bis 1953, war die Künstlerin Françoise Gilot (1921-2023) Muse und Lebenspartnerin von Pablo Picasso. Aus dieser Beziehung stammen die beiden Kinder Claude (1947–2023) und Paloma (* 1949). Gilot war Modell für viele Gemälde und Druckgraphiken. Im vorliegenden, von Roger Lacourière gedruckten Blatt, überzeugt Picasso mit einer malerisch umgesetzten Aquatinta seiner Lebensgefährtin. Das Blatt wurde am 24. Juni 1947 gedruckt, wenige Wochen nach der Geburt des gemeinsamen Sohnes Claude (15. Mai 1947). So kann die Graphik als sehr persönliche und poetische Huldigung an seine Geliebte und die Mutter des gemeinsamen Kindes verstanden werden.
