Condition

On an old chassis, in an old nailing, additionally fastened with staples. Slightly rubbed through the frame at the edge and the canvas broken in places along the edge of the image. In good condition and fresh in colour

Commentaires

The pattern of the cloth in the background, printed in shades of brown, creates the illusion that the still life has been placed in front of a landscape. Vallotton loved to paint still lifes with different materials and to depict the different surfaces of the elements and their light reflections, as the present painting shows.

Erläuterungen

Das in Brauntönen gedruckte Muster des Tuches im Hintergrund, erzeugt die Illusion, dass das Stillleben vor einer Landschaft angeordnet wurde. Vallotton liebte es Stillleben mit verschiedenen Materialien zu malen und die unterschiedlichen Oberflächen der Elemente und deren Lichtreflexe darzustellen, wie das vorliegende Gemälde zeigt.
