Commentaires

The Grisons painter Gottardo Segantini lived and worked in Maloja all his life, only leaving the town temporarily for stays in Rome and Zurich and trips to Germany. Segantini is best known for his brightly lit landscape paintings of the Upper Engadine. His art was characterised by the divisionist style of painting, with which he had been familiar since his youth through the artistic work of his father Giovanni Segantini. In this style, the colour is not applied to the canvas in a flat manner, but as a system of fine strokes. Segantini used this painting technique to capture the beauty of the Grisons high valley in all seasons. His winter paintings are among the most beautiful and atmospheric of his pictorial inventions.

Erläuterungen

Der Bündner Maler Gottardo Segantini lebte und arbeitete zeitlebens in Maloja, das er lediglich für Aufenthalte in Rom und Zürich sowie Reisen nach Deutschland zeitweilig verliess. Segantini ist vor allem für seine hellleuchtenden Landschaftsbilder des Oberengadins bekannt. Sein Kunstschaffen war durch die divisionistische Malrichtung geprägt, mit der er durch das künstlerische Schaffen seines Vaters Giovanni Segantini seit seiner Jugend vertraut war. Dabei wird die Farbe nicht flächig, sondern als System von feinen Strichen auf den Bildträger aufgetragen. Mit dieser Malweise hielt Segantini die Schönheit des Bündner Hochtals zu allen Jahreszeiten fest. Seine Winterbilder zählen zu den schönsten und stimmungsvollsten seiner Bildfindungen.
