Commentaires

"One cannot see the forest for the trees" is how one could describe the present painting, which is one of Félix Vallotton's first works and is still entirely under the influence of his teacher Alexandre Calame. However, he stages the trees as a vertical wall, broken only by the moss-covered, green forest floor with yellow flowers

Erläuterungen

"Man sieht den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht", so könnte man das vorliegende Gemälde bezeichnen, das zu den ersten Werken von Félix Vallotton gehört und noch ganz unter dem Einfluss seines Lehrers Alexandre Calame steht. Er inszeniert jedoch die Bäume als senkrechte Wand, die lediglich vom moosbedeckten, grünen Waldboden mit gelben Blumen durchbrochen wird
